Cartoon Divas and PinUp gals: Daisy Duck

I have some favourite Divas and smashing-looking gals from the cartoon world. Some from my childhood, others I discovered when I got older. When I started writing this post, I first intended to make a list with these characters, but the list got longer and longer...

So instead I will present them one by one. It will be like a new serie on this blog. First on the list is a prettylooking duck. Donald`s sweetheart!
Daisy/Dolly
I just love this girl. As a child she was my true favourite among the characters in Duckburg/Andeby. I even had a paperdoll with her. And every tuesday my parents got me the comic about Donald and Daisy from the store. Why did I like her so much? I think it was a combination of her big bow, long eyelashes, her cute handbags and her strong attitude. You don´t mess with Daisy. You just don´t!

She first appeared in the comic in 1940. In the cartoon Don Donald in 1937, there was a Donna Duck who is very similar to Daisy.

Daisy has a temper like Donald, but is still yet more sophisticated than Donald.

Some sources tell that Donalds sister, Della is married to Daisys brother. In periods she has been dating Gladstone Gander/Fetter Anton, Donald´s cousin and rival.
Daisy is also a member of a local gossip group called the "Chit-Chat Society", which plays bridge and sponsors charity fund-raisers. The core membership includes Clarabelle Cow/ Klara Ku and Clara Cluck/Klara Klukk.

She is also the aunt for the three sweet nieses; April, May and June/Hettie,Lettie og Nettie. Here is Donna. A bit more nasty look to her, isn´t it? From 1937.

I have made a collage inspired by Daisy:

  2. Haha, så morsomt at du skal presentere cartoon divas! Jeg har hatt noe liknende i tankene tidligere. Blir spennende å se hvem den neste blir? :)

  3. I don't like Daisy. She way too often comes off as an opportunistic bitch.

My favourite version of her is in the Italian comics, where she comes off as more rational. Of course, Carl Barks also gave her some good moments, but also he put her in situations where she took advantage of Dagwood and Donald fighting over her.

Btw, you rock for doing this. Looking forward to seeing more heroins from comics.

  4. That love triangle was often a subject in the comics I read as a child in the eighties. And I loved them. Ha ha! Thanks for nice comment. It is great fun writing about these heroins!!!!
